District Music Festival Information
Attention 7th and 8th grade musicians:The Champlain Valley District Music Festival is planned for January 29th and 30th. The concert is at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 30th. This festival gives Williston musicians an opportunity to represent our school as a distinguished member of an honor band, chorus or string orchestra. Membership in this festival is a huge honor paired with a small time commitment! Here is a link to all of the chorus and band audition information:Chorus: 7th and 8th grade chorus students will audition in front of Ms. Kennedy and Mrs. Schoppmann (music teacher at Camel's Hump Middle School). The audition date is TBA. During this audition, students will sing the round "Sing and Rejoice" alone and with Ms. Kennedy. There will also be a short melodic and rhythmic sight-reading example.
During this time, students will attend a workshop run by an expert music teacher where they will play with a group. This is followed by an audition session. All students will receive written feedback outlining their performance and may be selected for membership in the district band based on their performance on this day. More information here.
Students must be prepared to play the major scales and chromatic scales from the district scale sheet as well as the solo for his or her instrument. Most solos are from the book Concert and Contest Collection by Rubank. This can be found in most music stores or through Ellis Music. The percussion solo and some alto sax solos are from different books. Please see Kim Thompson for details.
Please sign up to audition with Mrs. Thompson. Click below for a link to the District Festival Website to access instrumental audition selections and scale requirements. These can be found under the 7/8 heading.
