Students Teachers And Resources Succeeding
The focus of the STARS team is to work with both teachers and students to improve student learning outcomes for all children at CCS. This model will support literacy instruction and learning in grades K through 4 by providing coaching, modeling, professional development and professional resources to classroom teachers to improve first wave (Tier 1) literacy instruction for all students. Literacy support services may also be applied through direct services for some students identified as needing second wave instruction (Tier 2) in K-8th grade. STARS also offers a resource library with a wonderful array of books and resources which parents and staff members are always welcome to browse and borrow. Many of these print resources were provided by funds from the PTO. For more information, please visit the CSSU Literacy website.
Shannon Spellman, "I love working at Charlotte Central School! Having the opportunity to work with students in Kindergarten all the way through eighth grade is amazing. I began working at CCS in 2006 as the Integration Specialist and then in 2010 was lucky enough to become the Literacy Specialist. Prior to CCS, I worked as a Kindergarten, Third, and Fourth grade teacher for the Boston Public Schools in Boston, Massachusetts. I received my B.A. in Elementary Education, Intensive Special Needs, and Sociology from Boston College, my M.Ed as an English/Language Arts Specialist from Boston College, a certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorders from Antioch University, and my C.A.G.S. in Special Education from St. Michael's College. I love to read, ski, watch hockey, and spend time with my husband and two sons."
Nan Boffa, "I love my job! I began working at CCS in 2009 as a substitute teacher when my two boys were full time students at CCS. As a licensed secondary English teacher, my favorite thing in the world is to share books with children. Luckily for me, a literacy interventionist position opened up and I got the job! Spending my days reading with children from Kindergarten through 8th grade is a dream job which I love, and being able to bring my dog Chester in as a reading buddy makes it all even more special. Outside of school, I spend lots of time with my family, most often on the side of football and lacrosse fields, skiing, and exploring the woods together on our mountain bikes. You'll also find me hiking, riding my horse, and reading as many books as possible!'"
