CSSU Study Committee Agenda

March 19, 2012

6:00-7:30 p.m.

CSSU Conference Room

 

Committee Members Present: Zoe Erdmann, Wendy Goodrich, Jeanne Jensen, Mary Catherine Jones, Charlie Magill, Bob Goudreau, Colleen MacKinnon, Russ Caffry, Chris Kapsalis, Sue Thibault, Elaine Pinckney, Bob Mason, Brian O’Regan

 

Committee Members Absent: Lisa Falcone, Rich Lowrey, Deb Baker-Moody

 

1.      Final Discussion

Facilitator O’Regan distributed some informational pieces: VSA/VPA/VSBA Legislative Bulletin, and viewpoint letter from the VSA/VPA/VSBA to the Legislature

 

General consensus was that the final report submitted to the State Dept was balanced and a fair summary of the Committee.

 

Mr. Kapsalis felt that the Committee should state to the CSSU Governing Board, that there are benefits that were determined by the Committee that could be put in place or improved without the need to create a RED.

-          Clear CSSU policy on student outcomes

-          Principals report to the CSSU

-          Town board meet every other month on a staggered basis

-          Look for school choice – public school choice within the SU.

 

Responses from community: Ms. Thibault rec’d a letter in the mail and emails saying, thank you for voting no.  Ms. Jones said the community input she rec’d reinforced the decision made by the Committee.

 

A report to the board should be given to the CSSU Board so they are aware of the key areas targeted by the Committee for further improvement toward efficiency.

 

Ms. Thibault said policy management and board governance are also areas which can be improved without the formation of a RED. 

 

Suggestion to put together a “brainstorming” list, not a “consensus” list with the ideas that were discussed by the Committee which would benefit the CSSU.

 

It was decided to use the Governance Snapshot from 2007 and give a status update.  This will show progress/change.  Will also generate additions from Mr. Kapsalis and Ms. Thibault’s lists so that there is a Snapshot 2012.

 

2.      Closure

Supt. Pinckney will create a GoogleDoc for everyone to review.  A brief presentation will be given to the CSSU Board.

As there was no further business to come before the committee the meeting was adjourned at 7:05pm.
