Food Service - School Nutrition Program Informationkids eating lunch

Welcome To HCS,

I would like to extend a warm welcome back to school to the Hinesburg community from your school’s cafeteria. We hope everyone had a fun and enjoyable summer.  Looking forward to a healthy new year.

The HCS cafeteria serves breakfast and lunch daily.  We proudly prepare all of our meals on site.  We strive to serve nutritious, wholesome food items each and every day.  We do have vending machines which offer  healthier food options than traditional vending machines.  This school year our vending machines will only be available after school hours as recommended by the USDA.  Our cafeteria staff includes a Cafeteria Supervisor and a team of three food service staff members.

Per  USDA guidelines requiring all schools to serve meals with twice as many fruits and vegetables, more whole grains, less sodium and fat. The guidelines were mandated by the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act signed by President Obama.   HCS proudly complies with these USDA guidelines.

This year  our lunch periods will be 20 minutes long.  Lunch- 11:00-1:00. We do offer a daily breakfast from 7:30 until 8:30.

HCS strives to serve whole grain breads and brown rice and pastas.   HCS serves a variety  fresh fruit and vegetables daily.   We serve over 5 different fresh fruits every week.  We serve a variety of colorful vegetables every day from our fruit & Veggie Cart. HCS cafeteria rarely serves desserts. We offer 100 percent orange juice, fat free or 1% white milk and fat free chocolate milk every day.  We will no longer offer chocolate milk at breakfast.  All soups are homemade and we never fry any of our food.

HCS offers a “hot lunch” entree, a colorful Fruit and Vegetable cart and a pre-made-to-order" sandwich bar.  Students who order the “hot lunch” or a made-to-order sandwich are always welcome  to choose vegetables and fruit from our fantastic Fruit and Vegetable cart Our goal is for our students to be exposed to as many fruits and veggies as possible.  We offer many options because we believe that students will eat what they choose. Our sandwich options are:  In house roasted Turkey, ham,  homemade Chicken Salad, tuna fish, Cheese, on a choice of whole wheat wrap or Bread.

HCS operates as a cashless cafeteria. We no longer accept cash at the cash register. All breakfast and lunches can be pre-paid by depositing money on your students account in two ways.
  1. Online at myschoolbucks.com either with a credit card/debt card. This site works the same way as mylunchmoney site. But offers more user friendly options.
  2. By check / cash, payable to Hinesburg Community School, which can either be mailed to the school @ HSC, 10888 Route 116, Hinesburg, Vermont, 05461, or drop the deposit off at the main office.
