Essential Early Education Community Peer Selection 2013– 2014 School Year
The Williston School District is now accepting applications for a lottery for community peers for the 2013–2014 school year pre-school program. To have your child’s name included in the lottery, please pick up a questionnaire at Allen Brook School, Williston Central School or print one off the school website and return it to the school by Friday, August 16th. Community peers must be 3 years old but not 5 years by Sept. 1st. They need to be toilet trained, separate easily from their parents, and be easily understood when talking. Names will be drawn for approximately 4 available peer slots during the week of August 19th 2013. Families of students who are drawn through the placement selection will be notified by phone within two weeks of the drawing.
We believe that children learn best through their experiences in play and we operate under the philosophy that children should be given the following opportunities:
to play and learn in an environment that encourages individuality and a sense of community.
to have their parents actively involved in their education experiences both in the classroom and during home visits.
to explore their classroom environment through play and cooperation with other children and teachers.
to learn through the discovery of new ideas, thoughts and realizations about the world they live in.
to learn in a way that allows for each child's difference and similarites to be recognized and celebrated.
