  • Videos to Help You Edit

Posted by Ellen Matthews at 9/15/2009 8:00:00 AM

Here are some links to videos that will help you edit your space.

Teachertube Schoolwires tutorials.  If, for some reason, the link does not take you to a page of Schoolwires tutorials on Teachertube, then go directly to www.teachertube.com and go to Channels>Tutorials and then enter Schoolwires as your search term. There are video tutorials for creating a photo gallery, podcast, link library and blog.

If you would rather read a real piece of paper, here's a link to the GREAT BIG Schoolwires Editor Manual.

  • Inactive Pages

Posted by Ellen Matthews at 8/23/2009 6:15:00 PM
You may be working on several pages or your may be working on a page that is incomplete when you need to stop. You do not have to have those pages out there for all the world to see until you're ready. Right above the SAVE button in the editing section is a little checkbox for active or inactive. If you click inactive, then your page is still there for you and your teammates to see (or whoever has editing rights to those pages), but no one else can see them until you flip the switch.

And please--use the spell check feature before clicking the SAVE button.

  • Reader Friendly Files

Posted by Ellen Matthews at 8/23/2009 6:00:00 PM

Many of us use Word 2007 at home and at school. Many of our students (and their parents) use something else. If you attach a link to a file on your website, it's a good idea to put it in a user-friendly format--one the reader can open.  The easiest option to use is the PDF. To change your document to a PDF, do this: Click SAVE and then underneath the file name down at the bottom of the box is a second line that lists file type. Click the down arrow and scroll down to PDF and then click SAVE. You'll have a PDF of the same file to upload and link to your page.

  • Forget the Old Site

Posted by Ellen Matthews at 8/23/2009 6:00:00 PM

When you are adding content to your pages, do not create links to our "old" SCSVT site. That site will go offline, leaving you with a dead link. If there is content on the SCSVT page you want, copy and paste it into your new page directly.

  • Documentation PDF

Want a paper copy or at least an electronic paper copy of how to edit your pages. Here's a copy for you.

    Editing Pages help--PDF

Please read the section on inserting images--pages 21-34, I think. There is a size limit for pictures. The information about getting the proper size and how to insert them is here.

  • Visit Other Pages and Sites

Posted by Ellen Matthews at 8/6/2009 4:00:00 PM

Need ideas on how to set up your space? Visit the other SCS pages. Navigate to them using the top channels from VIEW WEBSITE. Shannon Baird, on the Believe team, has a nice bio on her own  page, for example. Bob Gurwicz, on Polaris, has a great picture of himself and a quote. A great picture of yourself--maybe away from school--provides a little more information about yourself. Maybe add a bit about how long you've been teaching or why you chose teaching as a profession. Mention special interests or hobbies if you want.

Look for other cool teacher sites. Search using the terms "first grade" and ".k12" to get ideas of what other teachers in the US are putting out there. Or search for "sixth grade" and "blog" for ideas and organization.
